Embrace the Light - Celebrating Litha & the Summer Solstice

As we approach June 20, we prepare to celebrate Litha, also known as Midsummer or the Summer Solstice. This is a time when the sun reaches its zenith, offering the longest day and shortest night of the year. Litha is a celebration of light, abundance, and the vibrant energy of life. This year, with the Moon in Sagittarius, the energy is amplified by the spirit of adventure, expansion, and optimism.

Litha Ritual

This ritual is designed to harness the powerful solar energy of the solstice and the expansive nature of Sagittarius.

  • Altar Setup: Create an altar space outdoors if possible. Decorate with sun symbols, yellow and gold candles, sunflowers, and summer fruits. Add crystals like citrine, amber, or sunstone.
  • Tools: You will need a small fireproof bowl, a piece of paper, a pen, and herbs like sage and rosemary.

The Ritual:

Grounding: Stand barefoot on the ground, close your eyes, and take deep breaths. Feel the connection between your body and the earth, grounding yourself.

Invocation: Light your candles and raise your arms to the sky. Say: “I call upon the radiant energy of the sun at its peak, And the adventurous spirit of the Moon in Sagittarius. Bless this ritual with your power and light, Guide me towards growth, abundance, and wisdom.”

Offerings: Place your offerings of fruits and honey on the altar. Express gratitude for the abundance in your life. Say: “I offer these gifts in gratitude to the earth and the spirits, Thank you for your bounty and guidance.”

Fire Ceremony: Write down your intentions and goals for the coming months on the piece of paper. Focus on what you wish to manifest. Carefully burn the paper in your fireproof bowl, visualizing your intentions being carried into the universe.

Closing: Thank the sun, the Moon in Sagittarius, and any spirits or deities you invoked. Extinguish the candles safely. Say: “I give thanks for the light and wisdom bestowed upon me. May my intentions grow and flourish with the power of the sun. Blessed be.”

Mini Meditation

Find a quiet space to sit comfortably. Close your eyes and take several deep breaths. Visualize yourself standing in a golden field, bathed in warm sunlight. Feel the sun’s rays energizing your entire being. As you breathe in, imagine drawing in the sun’s energy, filling you with strength and positivity. As you exhale, release any doubts or fears. Repeat for a few minutes, allowing yourself to fully embrace the light and warmth.

“I am radiant with the energy of the sun. I embrace growth, abundance, and the boundless opportunities before me. My intentions are manifesting with ease and grace.”

Journal Prompt

Reflect on your personal growth over the past six months. What achievements and positive changes have you experienced? What new adventures and goals do you want to pursue in the coming months? How can you harness the energy of the summer solstice and the spirit of Sagittarius to support your journey?

As we celebrate Litha and the Summer Solstice on June 20, let’s embrace the abundant energy of this season. The combination of the sun’s peak power and the Moon in Sagittarius encourages us to seek growth, adventure, and expansion. Use this time to set intentions, connect with nature, and celebrate the light within and around you. Blessed Litha to all!
